WonderNet has grown its offerings and is now able to provide high-speed, secure and reliable fibre internet access for offices and small businesses in South Africa. These fibre to the business solutions are ideal for companies with fewer than 25 employees or start-ups that rely on remote workers.
We are able to offer business connectivity in most major cities across the country thanks to our pre-fibred buildings and partnerships with leading fibre network operators (FNOs). Getting connected via an FNO can take a bit longer, but if you’re in a pre-fibred building, it’s much quicker as the fibre connection is already installed.
WonderNet’s symmetrical fibre network
WonderNet is owned by SEACOM, which means that our business customers get direct access to some of Africa’s best fibre optic networks. These award-winning internet systems are set up in a symmetrical model. Essentially, each office or customer gets its own, uncontended fibre optic cable that runs to a central hub within the building. This hub connects directly to SEACOM’s international network of cables.
Our symmetrical fibre network has a few advantages, but the main one is increased internet speed. We are able to provide scalable backhaul internet at speeds of up to 10Gbps. Many other internet providers use a shared Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) model. This requires splitters and entails a far more complicated web of connections, which slows down the signal from a computer to the mainline.
A GPON network also has bandwidth limitations and is not as secure as a symmetrical network. The symmetrical system used by WonderNet makes it easier to find any faults and quicker to repair a broken connection, which vastly improves the overall customer service experience.
